伯里

生平
伯里出生和成长在Clontibret, County Monaghan,他的父亲是爱尔兰圣公会校长。他先受教于父母，然后在Derry的福伊尔学院和都柏林的三一学院上学，在那里他于1882年毕业，
1885年24岁的时候成为该学院的研究员。1893年担任三一学院现代历史讲座的主席。他在这个职位上讲授了8年。1898年他被任命为三一学院的钦定希腊文教授。这个职务与他的历史教授职务同时进行。1902年他成为剑桥大学的钦定现代历史教授。
